New Version Of Freegate Launched With New Features And Enhanced Security

Chinese netizens who have relied on Freegate software to circumvent the censors now have a new version of the popular programme available for down load.

The updated version, Freegate 7.12, includes a wide variety of new features and improvements making it more user friendly, secure and versatile. It is currently only available for Chinese users.

Freegate was intially created by dissident Chinese associated with the outlawed religious movement Falun Gong, it also has received funding from the Broadcasting Board of Governors which oversees Radio Free Asia.

The use of proxy servers and portals is a key way to get past government censorship in countries like China and Iran.

One of the most popular is Freegate. But many Chinese netizens are cautious about using it because it was developed by the Falun Gong, the mass movement outlawed in China as an “evil cult.”

Some are wary of the organization for philosophical reasons, while others feel it will draw attention from the authorities.

Alternatives to the Falun Gong sites do exist, however. One worth looking at is SSL VPN (Virtual Private Networks).
